Bio

I was born in Prescott, Arizona and spent my childhood near Yuma and in the White Mountains of eastern Arizona.  After taking art classes in high school I came to Flagstaff to study at Northern Arizona University.  My Great Grandmother received a teaching certificate there when it was the Arizona Teachers College. My Grandparents, Parents, and several of my siblings also received their education at NAU. I graduated from NAU in 1991 with a BA in Illustration and a minor in Comparative Religion.  Since then I have had some shows and for a time had my work in the Artists Gallery on North San Francisco Street.  At this point painting is more of a hobby than a profession for me.  That said, I cannot imagine not painting or having some sort of creative outlet.  It is part of who I am.  I will paint for as long as I am able.

Artist statement

I have been painting for most of my life and still find the idea of an Artist’s Statement daunting.  What is art? What is my art about?  What do I want to convey to the people who see my art? The short answer is; it’s a mystery.  That is what I like about painting.  You start with an idea and try to bring that to life.  Sometimes you get close to what you wanted to bring to light and sometimes you fail and create something completely different than what you thought your original idea would become. And sometimes that failure is better than your original vision. It’s all in the journey.  I like subjects that lend themselves to mysticism and a sense of the connection between everyone and everything.   I like pieces that are meditations on light and color and the joy of living.  So I paint what I like.

I can’t really tell you what that is or where I hope that takes me.  The mystery is the best part..
